Training Guidelines

• Short sessions of 5–10 minutes, 2–3 times a day
• Use only positive reinforcement—treats and praise
• Have one person train the dog at first; others can join in later
• Never punish the dog for mistakes

“Sit” Command

• Hold a treat above the dog’s nose and slowly move it backward
• When the dog sits, say “Sit” and give the treat
• Repeat 5–6 times per session

“Down” Command

• Lead the dog to its bed, say “Down” and point to it
• When the dog lies down, praise it and give a treat
• Gradually increase the waiting time

“Come” Command

• Squat down and open your arms
• Say “Come!” in a cheerful voice
• When they run up to you, praise them enthusiastically and give them a treat
• Never use “Come” as a punishment

Walking on a Leash Without Pulling

• Start at home, then move to the yard
• When they pull, stop and stand still
• Continue walking only when the leash is slack
• Praise them for walking beside you
